It’s Family Time; Thomas Resigns at Covina

Coach Darryl Thomas steps down after an 11-2 season and a trip to the Mid-Valley Division Semi Finals

(Covina) – Darryl Thomas has stepped down as the Head Coach at Covina High School effective immediately. Thomas, who has been at the helm for 15 years, announced his decision Monday.

Thomas cited the need to spend more time with his family.

“For years I have coached these kids up and spent time with them to help them reach their potential. Now it’s time for me to spend time with my kids,” Thomas said. “My son is on the freshman football team at Upland High School and I’d like to watch him play.”

Thomas has had a great run at Covina. He had a total record of 103-70 with 11 playoff appearances, five semifinal appearances, and five Valle Vista League titles.

Thomas will remain at Covina as Athletic Director. The search for a new coach now begins.

“With the economy the way it is we are seeing if anybody on campus or staff wants to take the position. We should know within two weeks. If not we will open it up for other applicants off campus,” Thomas said.
