Former Montebello Oiler Carlos Lozano is Utah bound.

Kick it!

As of right now…Orlando can keep Dwight Howard.

Who is Justin Sellers and why is he number one on the Dodgers depth chart at shortstop?

The big signing yesterday no one is talking about?

East Los Angeles College, after winning its first conference title in centuries, sent right tackle Carlos Lozano to the University of Utah.

That’s big on its own, but the former Montebello trenchman is just plain big standing at 6-8, 360 pounds.

“I’m scared but super duper ready to face this new chapter in my life,” said Lozano on Wednesday night. “I can still clearly remember everything ever since I joined football. I can still hear all the names people would call me. I went from being one of the biggest, softest, guys on the field to now being one of the top prospects in junior college football. It’s only the start, God knows when I’m going to reach the finish. But if it’s in God’s will I ain’t stopping till I get to the top.”

The Rosemead Lady Panthers defeated Gabrielino last night 60-11…Karina Brito and Melody Gauthier scored 17 and 16 points respectively…the Lady Eagles were held scoreless in the first quarter.

Final Add Lozano: In his final two years playing for Montebello, Lozano played for two different head coaches and the Oilers finished 4-6 and 3-7. Out of the playoffs.

The Mid Valley Sports Football Draft began in 2010 as a lark…but became a huge hit for our website that we repeated it in 2011. For those unaware, what we do is hold a mock NFL Draft with staff and key contributors assuming the role of General Manager for NFL teams.

Except on Draft night the selections aren’t made from the college ranks, but from the ranks of the Mid-Valley & Southeast Divisions. A good illustration would be the Indianapolis Colts. Everyone believes the Colts will be drafting Andrew Luck to replace the aging Peyton Manning.

So the Colts GM in our Mid Valley Spors Draft will take a quarterback, but he will choose between Maranatha’s Andrew Elfers, Pasadena’s Brandon Cox, Arcadia’s Myles Carr…or go with a certain southpaw from Arroyo.

The next GM might need a defensive lineman and look to M-Town’s Ellis McCarthy.

When it’s over, as a staff, we review all the picks and collective drafts of each team and usually declare me the winner. It’s silly, unscientific, but a lot of fun…and obviously very popular.

If you are interested in particpating drop me a line, we are currently in the process of locking up our GM roster.

Really Final Add Lozano: It helps to be big, but it helps a lot more to work very hard, with very little fanfare.

From a local perpective I love UCLA’s signing class…but how does it stack up with classes that are built nationally? It wil be interesting to see how it progresses.

The Dude abides…
