CV Takes Down Pasadena

By Tom Hendrickson

(La Crescenta)- It was Senior Night at Crescenta Valley. They honored the Senior basketball players before the game and they also recognized the 50th anniversary of the first Crescenta Valley basketball team by introducing 8 players, coach and athletic director. Then CV (21-4, 10-2) went out and honored them with a, 61-60, win as Christian Misi hit a 3-pointer with 0:06.0 on the clock.

CV jumped out to quick 8-0 start before Pasadena (17-7, 10-2) regrouped and took a 12-10 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Pasadena extended its lead during the second quarter as Blake Hamilton led the way with nine points finishing it with the exclamation point, a slam dunk off a steal as time ran out in the half.

Pasadena led at halftime 32-24.

CV got a three to start the second half by Dylan Kilgour. An exchange midway through the third quarter energized CV as Hamilton missed a shot, Davis Dragovich grabbed the rebound and Hamilton picked his pocket and dunked the ball putting Pasadena up by five. However Hamilton was also called for a technical for hanging on the rim.

Kilgour made both shots keeping CV in the game. The Falcons cut into Pasadena’s lead as the Bulldogs led 46-43 at the end of the third quarter.

It didn’t look good for CV when Dylan Kilgour, their best three point shooter, fouled out early in the fourth. But Misi made a turn-around in the lane, Dragovich drove for a layup and made a rebound putback. Rudy Avila made all four free throws (8-9 for the game) on a 1+ bonus and 2 shot fouls.

Pasadena’s Brandon Jolley took over for Hamilton in the fourth quarter with 10 points. He made a layup with less than 0:35.0 on the clock with the game tied 58-58 and was fouled by Tade Keshishyan. He missed the free throw and it caromed of Pasadena and a CV player out of bounds to Pasadena with 0:31.2 on the clock. After a Crescenta Valley timeout, Pasadena was unable to get the ball in and turned it over on a five second count.

CV looked lost as the clock rolled down and Coach Zagarian called another timeout with 0:21.7 to go. The Falcons struggled to get the ball in, but they were able to move the ball to the left side to Misi and it was nothing but net as the crowd went crazy. Pasadena called timeout, then drove down the floor and the ball went off the rim and the celebration began.

CV was led by Dragovich and Misi with 19 points each. Pasadena was led by Jolley with 21 and Hamilton with 15.
