Muir Beats CV, Wins Pacific League Title

(Pasadena)- Muir (24-1, 13-0) came from behind and held on to beat Crescenta Valley (21-5, 10-3) at home, 66-63.

Crescenta Valley jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead, however Muir recovered quickly and led 15-14 at the end of the first quarter.

CV started quickly in the second quarter using a 10-0 run led by Cole Currie and Dylan Kilgour, with a 3 and a layup apiece, forcing Muir’s Coach Smalley to call a timeout with the score 24-15. Muir closed the deficit to 37-31 by halftime as Dion Nelson scored 14 points.

The Mustangs came out in the second half and jumped on the Falcons with a 10-2 run to take a 41-39 lead. CV started missing 3’s and turning over the ball. However, Muir’s lead was still only 51-49 at the end of the third.

Muir used another 10-2 run in the fourth to go up 61-51 with less than half the quarter remaining. CV’s rally fell short as Currie’s layup made the score 66-63. Muir inbounded, time ran out and the celebration of the Pacific Title began. Jelani Mitchell scored 13 of his 16 points in the second half, including 3 one plus one’s when he made 5 out of 6 free throws, holding off CV.

CV was led by Davis Dragovich and Christian Misi with 15 points each.
