Miscues Continue to Plague Bonita

Fresno St. commit Taylor Langdon led Glendora to opening round win.

(San Dimas) –  It hasn’t been the easiest of starts to the 2012 season for Bonita as its faced two of San Gabriel Valley’s best hurlers in its first two games.

After dropping its opener to Dani O’Toole and St. Lucy’s last week, the Bearcats failed to get by Taylor Langdon and Glendora in the first game of Pool Play in the San Dimas Tournament, 9-5 in a time shortened affair.

At the end of the day, Bonita’s defense led to a Tartan seven-run first inning with most of its runs coming with two outs.

The inning started out innocently enough as Kayla Sok walked to lead off. After Kendall Woken flew out to left for the first out of the inning, Alicia Brown singled to score Sok and Brandi Wilson singled to give the Tartans runners at first and second. Langdon and Nicole Walter walked to score Brown. The inning got worse after two Bearcat errors led to five unearned runs in the inning.

Bonita responded in the second inning as Rebecca Orozco, and Michelle Whitt each singled with one out. Nikki O’Brien battled Langdon in a 10 pitch duel which led to O’Brien being hit by an inside pitch to load the bases full of Bearcats. Abby Milner was also hit by a pitch which led to Orzco scoring. Freshman Chloe Malenson singled in the field to score two more runs to cut the deficit to three by the time the inning was over.

Glendora answered right back in its own half of the third inning as Pavin Argyle tripled and Sarah Glenn walked to give the Tartans first and third with no outs. A critical error on Kahla Sok’s grounder allowed both Argyle and Glenn to score to put the game out of reach as time was expiring.

Whitt hit the games only home run of the game with a blast to deep centerfield in the top of the fourth for the final run of the game.
