Ambruso Named HC at View

New Mt. View HC Victor Ambruso

(El Monte)- After weeks of speculation, discussion, and a lot of passion on the blogs, Mountain View High School has named Victor Ambruso as its head football coach.

“Working out with team, just being out there with the kids and seeing the respect they have for the game and for the coaches, I couldn’t have stepped into a better situation.”

Ambruso, 32, becomes the tenth head coach in school history.

“It’s my first head coaching job and I’m very excited. I enjoy teaching here and trying to reach these kids.”

In his ninth year as an on campus teacher, Ambruso was part of former head coach James Wilson’s staff for four seasons before joining Victor Santa Cruz’s staff at Azusa Pacific University. In 2007 and 2008 he was the Vikings offensive coordinator.

“It was a lot of fun coaching with James,” Ambruso said. “He got everybody excited about football here. And I couldn’t have asked for a better experience with Coach Santa Cruz at APU.”

Plans?

“We are going to talk about the double-wing,” Ambruso said with a laugh when asked about what his plans were for the team. “You’re talking to a spread guy, we ran the spread when I was here before, but we’re going to look at our talent and go with what best fits us. When I look I see the benefits of it (the double wing).”

“He’s going to do fine,” said El Monte HC Joel Sanchez, who played baseball with Ambruso at APU. “He has a lot of energy and wants to help the kids at Mt. View. He’s very competitive.”

Most of the coaching staff is expected to return for 2012, but will be in different roles. He is still in the decision making process about coordinators and those he may bring in from the outside.

“I can tell you this, every single coach I have will be a great character guy.”
