Lopez, South, Slow Down Gabrielino

(South El Monte)- Mario Lopez fired a complete game and South El Monte jumped out to a 4-0 lead before holding on to beat first place Gabrielino 4-2 Friday in Mission Valley League action.

Lopez had a no hitter going for five and two-thirds before Gabrielino finally broke it up. Lopez struck out four and walked one while allowing five hits.

Romen Aguinaga got the scoring started in the fifth with a two out two run single that brought in Alex Vera and Pablo Ocegueda. David Mora then hit a bloop single to bring in Aguinaga to take a 3-0 lead after five innings. In the sixth Vera singled home Aaron Saavedra to make it 4-0 going into the seventh.

Johnny Moreno and Romero Alvarez both drive in runs with base hits in the seventh, but Lopez got Angel Acosta to pop out to first to finish off the game.

South El Monte improved to 7-6 in league while Gabrielino falls to 10-3. It was the second straight MVL loss for Gabby.
