Former El Monte football head coach Ev Bjornsen has passed away at 64.
Coach BJ, a graduate of Arroyo High School, taught and coached several sports at EMHS. In 1986 he took over for Charles Ucker and led the Lions program for four seasons and a playoff birth in his first year. He stepped down after the 1989 campaign and was replaced by Tim Campa.
Mid Valley Sports extends prayers and sympathies to his family.

We all knew BJ’s heart was at EMHS. However, during his too short time at Rosemead he was a sincere PANTHER! Within the first few months after arriving at RHS he knew more students than most of us who had been there longer. He truly bonded with the students. Encouragement through positiveness and action was his daily mantra. We love and miss you Beej.
BJ was one of my favorite coaches, back in the early 80′s. He was a good man who imparted good things into my life. He was a real expression of “Lion Pride.” My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.
