(Temple City) – They’re coming off a season in which they finished 1-9. They’re playing in the same league as the two time defending Mid-Valley Division champions. They didn’t win their first game until the last game of the season. So it’s safe to say that the Temple City Rams are uh…flying under the radar coming in to 2012.
But on a hot Tuesday afternoon, the Rams were looking forward to the season as they put on their pads and helmets for the first time. They have a new quarterback in Anthony Valencia and a new running back in Nick Starling. Receiver Kasmir Khaliq is returning and the Rams are expecting big things from Chris Reed, who is now the feature back.
Yes Monrovia is the Rio Hondo King, no question. But after that it gets interesting. La Canada has a new coach, South Pasadena quarterback Joey Harmon transferred to Arcadia and San Marino lost some key talent. So yes, Temple City is in the mix. Head Coach Mike McFarland is beginning his third year at the helm which is the longest stint since the Mike Mooney days.
The Rams open against La Salle on Friday night August 24 and then face Arroyo, Hoover, Alhambra and Rosemead. The Alhambra game will be a homecoming of sorts for TC assistant Mike Gutierrez who coached linebackers last year for the Moors.
