(Rowland Heights) – Last year was one Rowland would like to forget. The Raiders finished 2-8 and out of the playoffs. That page has turned and although they are still young they are looking for a fresh start.
“We’re just so green,” said Rowland Coach Craig Snyder. “We have some good talent but we just need some more experience.”
Quarterback George Campos returns for his senior season. Last year Campos threw for over 1000 yards. Avery Duffus is a key skill player for Rowland. Duffus will see time at runnning back and at cornerback on defense.
“He’s really been runnning the ball well,” said Snyder. “He’s going to be really good for us.
Other players to watch are fullback Terrance Reed, free safety Rudy Andrade, strong safety Diego Arias and linebacker Julio Budalo. Up front the Raiders will be led by Greg Lawton, Ivan Ruiz-Guzman, Joel Delgado and Jesus Roman.
“Jesus (Roman), 5-10, 260, is just a big boy. Down near the goal line within five yards he’s really effective. And as for Arias he’s long and lean and will be big for us in the secondary.”
Arias is expected to play some wide receiver as well.
The Raiders open at Nogales and then tavel to Wilson in the first two weeks. Then they get Northview at home and Arroyo on the road before opening league play.
