(Pomona) – It may have been close to 100 degrees as the players strapped on the helmet and pads for thier annual intra-squad scrimmage Saturday morning. But for Diamond Ranch it was all good because it meant football season is here and well…isn’t that the most wonderful time of the year up on the hill at DR? Besides they all got fed courtesy of Outback Steakhouse after the game.
With chants of “We are DR!” being shouted from the stands and the band sounding off in between plays the Panthers hit the field on Saturday. They were led by quarterbacks Xavier Beltran and Pablo Unzueta. Beltran took over as the starter late last year. Lining up behind the signal callers was William Bryan and Allen Saguero while WR.RB Marcus Briscoe made plays on the outside. Both players will also see time in the secondary.
Coach Roddy Layton will also be looking to OL/DL Kammy Delp, Josh Buchholz and Carl Bryan.
Parish Stanford, senior cornerback, should be a special player for the Panthers in 2012.
“Stanford is going to be big for us. He will also play some offense,” Layton said. “At quarterback Xavier is really pulling away as the starter.”

The Panthers finished the season 6-6 last year and made it to the second round of the playoffs. But the season ended on a sour note when they were shutout by Muir 48-0 to end their campaign. This year they get Chino, El Rancho, Elsinore and Schurr before opening Hacienda League play with West Covina on September 21.
