Arcadia Beats Burroughs, Finally!

By Carson E. Powers

(Burbank)- Burroughs came into the Pacific League in 2006 and ran off six straight wins over Arcadia, until Friday night. The Apaches used a solid defense to defeat the Indians 18-8 for the first time this century.

The case being made in the league opener for both schools Friday was not how you get it done, but did you get it done.

With 11:53 left in the half Burroughs didn’t get it done. On first down from its own 19 a bad snap sailed over quarterback Andrew Williams head. The result was Arcadia’s Nick Ryor recovering the football in the end zone for a 6-0 lead.

(The point after was blocked.)

Roughly nine minutes later the Apaches Jake Medel scored on a 6-yard run, the two point attempt fails, and the visitors led 12-0 with 3:49 to play.

Two minutes later, after the Indians fumbled the ball at their own 18, Sheldon McKinley scored on a 1-yard run, the point after was again blocked, but Arcadia led 18-0 at the break.

Following a scoreless third the Indians finally scored with 4:48 left in the game on Garrett Manoukian’s 2-yard run. Andrew Williams then hit Conor Joyce for the two-point conversion to close the scoring.
