Pasadena City College 17, Golden West 9 — PCC finally joined the winners column and got its first win this season to snap a nine game losing streak extending from last year with a gritty 17-9 over Golden West.
The Lancers were successful on six of 13 third-down conversions, while it’s defense fared prominently by stopping Golden West in the red zone during two key instances, inside the PCC 20 (Dwayne Reed fumble recovery) and on the final drive around the PCC 30 by forcing an overthrown pass. All in all, the Lancers kept them without any score in the last three quarters, save for a safety in the third frame.
Tairen Owens had four receptions for 30 yards and one touchdown. Also making significant impact at the end of quarterback Justin Posthuma’s (18/26-186-1 TD-1 INT) passes were Chaz Fuery (Maranatha-three catches 46 yards) and Mitchell Crockom (Alhambra-three catches 41 yards).
Mt SAC 52 Grossmont 28 –– Mt SAC showed why its among the country’s elite with another easy victory over Grossmont to stay undefeated at 6-0.
The Mounties racked up 523 yards of offense, including 275 rushing.
Jamal Overton had one score over 13 carries and 101 yards while Garrett Paredes shared in the ground assault pounding for 71 yards on nine runs and one touchdown. Also getting touches were local standouts Ernest Quiocho (Walnut), Shane Blood (La Mirada), and Pomona’s Sir Darius Yarbrough, who completed the Mounties’ scoring with a three yard touchdown run.
Peter Nonu (OT/DT) hurried the quarterback once and partook in five tackles, while Geoffrey Vaughns (secondary/WR) had two interceptions as the South Hills products made an impact on defense along with Elisha Henley (four solo tackles).
Citrus 54 Chaffey 21 — The Owls authoritatively sped ahead 31-0 in the second quarter before expanding its lead to 47-7 in the third and finally settling for a 54-21 victory.
Vincent Hernandez rounded out Citrus’ scoring bout by navigating around multiple tackles in the backfield and turning loose in the open 50 yards to paydirt.
The all-purpose utility Isaiah Kepley accounted for 22 of the Owls’ 54 points by catching three passes for two touchdowns and 59 yards, perfecting all seven of his extra-point kicks, and booting a 24-yard field goal.
Maurice Dupleasis recorded seven tackles, including three for loss of yardage. Chris Laros pinned Chaffey well back on three punts and averaged 61.7 yards per kick, including a school record 75-yarder.
Riverside 45 Fullerton 28 — Conor Bednarski completed 24 of 53 passes for 331 yards and three touchdowns, but it wasn’t enough as Riverside sustained a big 24 point surge over the first two stanzas throughout and on to a win.
