It was another stellar Knight for Arroyo’s Aholoka!
(San Gabriel) Peter Aholoka ran for 195-yards and four touchdowns to lead the Knights past the Gabrielino Eagles 28-0 Thursday night an into the playoffs for the 29th year in a row at Gabrielino High School.
With a playoff birth on the line for Arroyo the Knights came out a little flat offensively managing a lone touchdown in the first half on a one yard run by Aholoka.
On the other side of the ball the Arroyo defense did it’s job limiting the Gabrielino offense to 135-yards of total offense.
Cameryn Matthews and the Eagles fell victim to the Knights second shut out of the season.
“The defense has been playing lights out pretty much all year. There have been a few bumps in the road where we haven’t been able to get off the field. It was that way in the first half but we did the job giving them (the offense) two turnovers in the first half,” commented Arroyo Coach Jim Singiser after the game.
Even though he did score the only Knight touchdown in the first half, the longest run Aholoka was able to manage was ten yards. That changed with just under 5:00 left in the third period.
Running behind his right guard and tackle, Aholoka got loose for a 49-yard jaunt to paydirt. Adrian Hernandez booted the extra point to extend Arroyo’s lead to 14.
Two more scores for Aholoka of five and 19-yards came to cap drives of 76 and 63 yards respectively to bring Arroyo to the final score of 28-0.
When asked when he felt comfortable with the lead and could breath a little Singiser stated “When we got to 21. With the height they have at receiver they are a jump ball away from making something happen.”
The Knights will now sit back and await Sunday’s news about who their next opponent will be when the CIF playoff pairings are announced.
For the Eagles, their 7-3 record will allow them to petition for the one and only wild card spot available in the Mid-Valley Division.
