Maranatha Holds off Lahainaluna in Hawaii

Ron Gore and Michael DeMeester both finished with double doubles to help Maranatha scoot past a stubborn Lahainaluna Lunas team 59-53 and advance to the championship of the Lahainaluna Invitational.

Jeremy Major was again a key factor in the game keeping the Minutemen ahead when the Lunas made their runs. Statistics for the players, unfortunately, were not available at press/posting time. Maranatha (7-2) has its intentions fixed on hauling home the championship hardware Saturday night at 5:30 (Hawaii time), but they will have to devise a vigorous, dependable and workable game plan to beat a menacing opponent in Washington state’s 10th-ranked Curtis HS, who is 7-1 coming in (according to Maxpreps).

The Curtis Vikings have destroyed its competition so far here on Maui, as it annihilated Hawaiian opponents Molokai of Hoolehua 79-27 and Maui HS of Kahului 69-18. In the game with Maui, Curtis led 24-0 in the first and 41-4 at halftime. Curtis’ only loss of the season so far was to Washington state’s #1 ranked and undefeated Federal Way Eagles (10-0), who are on the verge of cracking the top 100 in the country,
