Girls Hoops: Pasadena Poly Puts Away Flintridge

By Corey Kwok
Kiki Yang scored 22 points including four free throws in the last 42 seconds to lead Pasadena Poly to a 50-44 win over Flintridge Prep. Pasadena Poly remained perfect in the Prep League (17-5, 10-0) with the win while Flintridge Prep dropped to 15-6, 8-2.
Lady Panthers’ sophomore Yang along with the Rebels’ junior Maya Okamoto both finished with 22 points to lead their respective teams, but in the end it was Yang who delivered the icing strike at the line to subdue a Rebel rebellion. Flintridge Prep held Poly to just five second-half field goals and stretched a 9-3 run into the final minute of play to close within two at 46-44 with 1:02 left in the fourth on a basket by Grace Cha.
Yang hit four 3-pointers and also added four rebounds, four steals, and five assists for Poly.
In the loss, the Rebels received a balanced dose of rebounding from Lacy Coan (6 points, 2 assists), and Tala Ismail (4), who both secured eight caroms. Katherine Bogaard had a team high three assists.
Poly also was fortified by 14 points and eight boards by Kaitlyn Olah and six caroms, one block, with 11 points from Courtney Foster.
The Panthers will have its regular season homestand finale and the first of two rematches this upcoming Tuesday (5:00 pm) as they host Mayfield before being reacquainted with Flintridge Prep on the road (Thursday 6:00 pm) to bookend league and regular season action.
