(Whittier) – Santa Fe extended its winning streak to three-games with a very impressive 42-0 victory over Bell Gardens at Titan Stadium.
Chiefs quarterback Alex Flores ran for three touchdowns and tossed a pair of scores to lead the offense.
Flores finished the evening, nine of 16 for 144 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. He also ran for 64 yards on 12 carries.
Santa Fe (3-1) used an effective defense that stopped the Lancers on their only serious drive in the second quarter when Chris Esparza picked off Josh Adame at the Chief four-yard line. It was as close as Bell Gardens (3-1) would get to scoring on a very stingy defense.
The Chiefs then drove 96 yards on 16 plays that was highlighted by William Bomer’s six carries on 34-yards during the offensive series. Flores scored on a quarterback sneak to make the score 14-0.
It was a tough evening for Bell Garden’s Adame who was intercepted four times. Three of those picks came in the second half.
The only bright spot on a rather lackluster offensive performance by the Lancers was running back Steve Ibarra who had 15 carries for 50 yards. Overall, Bell Gardens was only able to muster 164 yards for the game.
The Lancers biggest play game on a fake punt when Gabriel Viesca found Chris Gutierrez on a 46-yard pass play for a first down.
Santa Fe extended the lead in the second half when Flores scored his third touchdown of the evening on a 15-yard run to make the score 28-0.
The Chiefs put the game on ice with 5:30 to play in the third quarter when Cameron Oliver made a diving catch for a touchdown to increase the lead to 35 points.
Bell Gardens made one final attempt to score with thirty seconds to play, but Adame’s pass was intercepted by Esparza for the second time in the evening.
