Kick it!

The fact that Wes Welker was able to walk from New England to Denver for a mere 12-million over two years tells you there were other factors at play in the deal…or lack of a deal.

The biggest factor might be Welker’s age, he’s 31. Still, 6-million a year in the NFL is not a lot of money.

…And giving Danny Amendola five years/31-million, ten of which is guaranteed, makes little sense. As a Rams fan I’m used to seeing one of his arms in a sling more often than making a play on the field. He’s a really good player, sorry to see him go, but I’m glad the Rams didn’t tie themselves down to him.

I’m all about Jake Long right now…

Speaking of tying yourself to something…Tie me to this: Los Altos. While everyone is talking Diamond Bar, and of course West Co…Los Altos bounces back this fall.

Go Pablo!

Baldwin Park will hosting its first annual passing competition on June 8th and they will follow that with a lineman competition on June 15th…Those interested should contact Braves HC Chris Williams at bravesfootball2012@yahoo.com

Did you know former Dodger Juan Pierre is MLB’s leading active all-time base stealer with 591 steals? That places Pierre 19th all time. Of the top 100 base stealers of all time only six are still active (Pierre, Ichiro Suzuki, Carl Crawford, Jose Reyes, Jimmy Rollins, and technically, still, Bobby Abreu).

Last Add Base Stealers: Of the top 20 all-time base stealers 10 of them have played during my baseball lifetime. What I mean by “my baseball lifetime” is since I started watching baseball, which was in 1973. Of the top 100 base stealers, I’ve lived to see 41 of them.

I don’t believe he is actually there, but Kurt Scoby probably needs a place like Monrovia more than Monrovia needs a back like Kurt Scoby. I think it would be really good for the kid to be around that coaching staff, but don’t mistake that for the Wildcats needing Scoby.

Last Add Tabatabai: I’ve been asked if I was upset with El Monte OC Brian Tabatabai’s comments on my last column…Absolutely not. If you recall in my last column when I wrote about gays in football and locker room dynamics I solicited opinion. I wanted people to share their opinion, not to start a war that goes back and forth for days on end…and the guy running the website always gets the last word, so what is the point of starting a war when I asked for people to voice their thoughts?

BigDog54 was right Mid Valley Sports isn’t the place to solve the world’s issues, but every once is a while its good to hear what people are thinking when issues crossover into the sports world.

I’m guessing Coach T. and I disagree on 99.9 percent of all sociopolitical/economic issues…About a third of our current and former staff disagree with me on the same issues…But I’m going to guess also that Coach T. and I agree on these: Football, and having a passion to see young people succeed…and that is all that matters for Mid Valley Sports.

I’m going to roll the dice on one more thing and say Coach T. and I probably agree that El Monte HC Joel Sanchez should invest more in his Staff/Media relations by buying us lunch at Red Lobster.

Last Add Opinion: Guys, when I ask for your opinion…feel free to give it. I will not treat you any differently. Hearing from you, whether we agree or disagree makes MVS better.

Really Last Add Coach T.: A discussion that would be worth having back and forth on for days on end…Is Tabatabai’s thought process on punting versus not punting, and eschewing (how’s that for power vocab?) the point after kick…(I think Sanchez & Tabatabai read “Game Plan” by Frank Dupont)

I don’t know why, and I could be wrong, but I really think Monrovia trenchman Avonte Moore will have a big 2013. I saw him on film as a sophomore and I really liked him…but then again I’ve drank the kool aid before. I thought T.J. Rubley was going to be great. Still, I’ll go with Avonte his fall.

Division-2 power Colorado State Pueblo has offered La Mirada brothers Gerry and James Myers scholarships to play football this season. Gerry, the Matadores quarterback in 2012, threw for 2,077 yards and 24 touchdowns against just three interceptions. Twin brother James played defensive back and was in on 48 tackles, two interceptions, and a sack. He also caught five passes from his brother, four of them going for touchdowns.

In my last column I cited the number of 1,800 girls across America played high school football…So my question is, if more girls are playing high school football should Title IX apply to football?

I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR YOUR THOUGHTS…

The Dude abides…
