Bats Come Alive for Apaches

(Arcadia) – Arcadia climbed out of an early three run deficit and scored four in the third and one in the fourth to gain the lead for good before going on to beat West Torrance 8-4 Monday night.

Jonathan Hopkins closed it out with a stellar relief performance by throwing 3 1/3 innings allowing just one hit and striking out four. He gave up a leadoff hit to Tommy Oslund to begin the fifth, before erasing the final nine batters in order.

The Warriors frustrated the Apaches and starting pitcher Alex Morales for seven hits and four two-out runs, including three RBI doubles the first 3 1/3 innings. Javier Galvan (2-3, 2 RBI, two 2Bs) and Kevin Clausen (2-3, R, RBI, 2B) went back to back to extend West’s lead to 3-0 in the second, before Galvan repeated in the fourth to again double in Nyles Nygaard (1-2, 2R, SB) and tie the game 4-4.

Cameron Tuck (2-4, R, RBI, 2B) jumped on a first pitch to give Arcadia a 4-3 lead in that four run third stanza and did so again in the fifth, sizzling one straight through third and to the left field corner, before stealing third and scoring on a sacrifice lineout to right from Jason Bunch to make it 6-4.

Fernando Rosales went left-center gap in the sixth for a lengthy two-RBI single which plated Matt Morales (1-2, 2R, BB) and Brendan Toy (1-2, 2R, BB, HP) to buy the Apaches a double-up cushion on the Warriors and round out the scoring.

David Dominguez continued to emerge from last week’s hitting slump and was sharp in all four at-bats, settling to go 2 for 4 as a line drive to first and another in deep right were both caught. Troy Resch hit 2 of 3 with two RBI’s. One of those RBI’s came when he was hit by pitch to force in Michael Luna (1-3, R, SB) to give Arcadia the lead for good.
