Northview’s Javon Taylor and Roy Torres sign to play on Saturdays

Kick it!

Funny how all of the college football energy in the southland seems to be in Westwood these days…

I look at Jim Mora Jr. and I see Pete Carroll at USC ten years go…

I look at Lane Kiffin and I see Paul Hackett.

Can somebody forward a note to Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jay Bruce and let him know that he’s 66 at-bats into the season and that its time for him to hit one out?

Not predicting a final four appearance in the Northwest Division, not guaranteeing a Montview League title, but don’t go to sleep on Bassett this season. Keep an eye on sophomore running back Ricky Mejia who ran for 523 yards as a freshman in 2012.

Right now, as of the writing of this column, voters say Monrovia would beat Downey head to head. I know I’m about to incur the wrath of the M-Town faithful, but if the Vikings and Wildcats squared off the first week of September I’m going with the team from the Southeast.

While it seems a pretty good bet that Pasadena Marshall joins the Mission Valley League…It seems an equally good bet that Bonita is a goner.

That is a drag.

San Dimas going into the Hacienda with 1,200 students just won’t happen…Shouldn’t happen.

One coach told me that no one wants to see Charter Oak back in the Southeast…South Hills might be palatable.

Last Add UCLA: The Bruins have moved former Arcadia standout Taylor Lagace to outside linebacker to take advantage of his speed. Lagace checks in right now at about 6-1 200 pounds…

Next Add Jay Bruce: Bruce, along with Matt Kemp and Mike Trout form the core of my fantasy baseball team. Right now the three of them have 181 at-bats combined and one home run…Fantasy baseball sucks right now.

Next Add San Dimas: At the end of 2011 Monrovia was the stand alone power in an otherwise very balanced Mid-Valley Division. In 2012 the Montview and Olympic were booted to the Northwest and the Alpha League with state champion Sierra Canyon and perennial power Paraclete were brought in to bring “balance”.

The second that change was sealed we said Sierra Canyon, Paraclete, San Dimas, and Monrovia would be in the final four. You didn’t have to be Nostradamus to figure that one out.

Now a year later with Monrovia now a three time champ not one proposal has been made about moving them up, but instead there is talk of moving San Dimas out?

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want anybody going anywhere, but if Monrovia stays in the Rio Hondo at least for another four years, and divisional realignment doesn’t happen again for another two (welcome the correction) the Wildcats could stretch their dynasty to five titles, possibly seven.

…And the only other public school in the division with the program in place to compete on a yearly basis (San Dimas) is potentially being moved out?

Last Add San Dimas: Football is the feature sport and its extremely unique…Treat it different. Basketball and Baseball already operate in divisions that are different than football. The smart guys, the ADs, the board members, just need to make all changes based only on football.

Congrats to Javon Taylor and Roy Torres and the Northview football program. Taylor is inked with Mid America Nazarene and Torres with Benedictine College. Both schools are located in Kansas and play at the NAIA level.

The Dude abides…
