1. The NBA season opens Tuesday night October 29 with Chicago at Miami and the Clippers vs. the Lakers at Staples Center.

5. Former Pittsburgh Pirate great Dave Parker is battling Parkinson’s disease.

6. Quarterback Max Wittek who is battling Cody Kessler for the starting job at USC, said he would consider transferring if he doesn’t win the position.
