(Pomona) The Diamond Ranch Panthers played for the first time at home Friday night on the campus of Diamond Ranch High School and inaugurated the new stadium with a 42-14 win over the visiting El Rancho Dons.
The Dons kept the game close and drew to within seven points in the third quarter, 21-14, but the Panthers turned up the heat on defense and El Rancho got not closer eventually losing by 28.
*** Diamond Ranch elected to receive the opening kick off and marched 80-yards down the field on 16 plays getting the score on a seven yard touchdown pass fromĀ Xavier Beltran to Daniel Garcia.
*** The Panthers scored two first quarter touchdowns, the second on a five yard run by Will Bryan, but the El Rancho defense stepped up and shut out Diamond Ranch for the rest of the first half.
*** The Dons got on the board early in the third period on a 35-yard run by Aaron Escareno. The score was set up by an interception of Beltran by Adrian Corona.
*** Lightning struck on the ensuing drive for the Panthers when Beltran found Donovan Smith in the seam and Smith did the rest out racing the El Rancho secondary 79-yards to paydirt.
*** The Dons pulled back to within seven on Escareno’s second score of the night, this time from seven yards away.
*** Bryan did some damage as well on the defensive side of the ball picking off Ryan Araujo and the Diamond Ranch 13-yard line. The Panthers were able to capitalize on the turnover going 87-yards on 11 plays with Garcia scoring on a 25-yard run.
*** Bryan put the game out of reach with 4:58 left in the final frame on a five yard run. The drive was set up by a short punt that left Diamond Ranch the ball on the El Rancho 34. Bryan finished he evening gaining 96-yards on 21 carries with a touchdown each running and receiving.
*** Garcia capped the second half scoring barrage with and eight yard pass from Beltran. Garcia scored three times, two receiving and one rushing to go with 58 rushing yards and 34 receiving.
*** On the night, Beltran hit on 10 of 16 passes for 158 yards and four touchdowns.
*** El Rancho will get some home cooking next week when an angry Bell Gardens team comes to town while Diamond Ranch will travel over the hill to take on Ayala.
