Isaac Mendibles had 221 yards and 4 TD in one half

(Montebello) Isaac Mendibles ran for 221 yards and four touchdowns as Montebello rolled to a 57-21 rout of South El Monte Friday night. Montebello ended it early leading 22-0 at the end of one and 50-0 at halftime.

In the second half the Oilers called off the dogs playing mostly their twos  and threes and South El Monte finally made some noise. Marcos Lopez scored three times in the second half for the Eagles to account for the final score.

***Montebello scored on the first play from scrimmage when Carlos Chin hit a wide open Edgar Gonzalez on an 80 yard pass play off of a flea flicker.

***With 5:47 Mendibles started his big night with a 38 yard touchdown run. An Olier two point conversion made it 15-0.

***Mendibles also scored on runs of one, 49 and seven yards. He carried the ball 18 times but not once in the second half. He didn’t return to action after halftime.

***Montebello employed a two quarterback system through out the night. Carlos China threw for 109 yards and a touchdown and Angel Hernandez passed for 45 yards and a score.

***South El Monte finally got on the board early in the the third quarter on a 25 yard run by Lopez. Lopez scored all of the Eagles touchdowns and rushed for 149 yards on 25 carries.

***Mario Burciaga replaced Jaime Michel at quarterrback for the Eagles in the second quarter.

***”We told the kids you have to avoid a slow start like we did the previous two weeks and we did that. But the main thing is we didn’t turn the ball over.” – Montebello HC Pete Gonzalez.

***South El Monte missed field goals on each of its first two possessions.

***Gonzalez caught three passes for 130 yards and a touchdown.

***It was Montebelllo’s first win of the year after losses to Diamond Bar and Cal. South El Monte fell to 1-1. The Eagles beat Nogales last week.
