(Rowland Heights)- Quarterback Nathan Coto totaled 447 yards and scored four touchdowns in Arroyo’s 40-14 win over Rowland Friday night at Thomas Aney Stadium.
Both the Knights and Raiders traded blows in the first quarter but failed to score. Arroyo scored early in the second quarter when Coto connected with David Cotero on a 4-yard fade route for six.
On the ensuing kick off, the Raiders failed to field the kickoff and the Knights recovered the ball on the Rowland 26-yard line. Fourteen seconds later, Jose Valdivia used only one hand to catch Coto’s 26-yard touchdown pass.
And the rout was on.
***Rowland’s Jackie Zhang, who early shined for the injured Avery Duffus, did not play.
***Arroyo’s David Cotero caught four passes for 69-yards and scored two touchdowns.
***Kevin Chavez rushed for 180 yards and scored both the Raiders touchdowns.
***Nathaniel Sanchez passed for 42-yards for Rowland.
***The Knight’s offense out gained the Raiders 529-285
***”He’s grown up a lot,” said Arroyo HC Jim Singiser talking about Nathan Coto.
***Rowland’s defense forced two interceptions.
***”I have to give it up to my team. My line for giving me protection, my receivers for making things happen and my running backs for saving my life,” said Coto after the game.
***Arroyo travels to play La Canada on October 4.
***Rowland hosts Walnut next Friday.
***The Knights have won three straight after losing to Los Altos 28-21 in Zero Week.
