(Monrovia) – Monrovia scored twice in less than a three minute span in the fourth quarter to break a 13-13 tie and went on to beat San Dimas 26-13 Friday night.

Both touchdowns came courtesy of Kurt Scoby runs. After a Kameron Johnson fumble recovery on the Monrovia 30, Scoby busted off a 70 yard run to put the Cats up by two scores with 7:23 left. Scoby scored on a 16 yard run with 10:04 to play to give Monrovia the lead.

***Freshman Miles Bryant started at quarterback in place of the injured Deshawn Potts and made history in the process. Bryant is the first quarterback in Monrovia history to start as a freshman for the varsity.

***Scoby had 71 yards midway through the fourth quarter but finished with 188 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries.

***Bryant completed two passes and both went for touchdowns. He only had seven attempts and also threw two interceptions. He threw a 20 yard TD strike to Crayvon Gillespie and a 72 yard touchdown pass to tight end Jacob Ramos.

***Monrovia’s defense came up with three stands in the red zone holding San Dimas to just six points. Trailing 13-7, San Dimas had a first down at the Monrovia five-yard line after an interception and return by Erick Ware. The Monrovia defense held and San Dimas ended up spiking the ball on fourth down.

***Field goals by Ware of 36 and 26 yards in the third quarter for San Dimas tied it at 13 before Scoby was unleashed.

****Joseph Mayorga busted off a 47- yard run down to the Monrovia 26 yard line in the fourth quarter. Two plays later Johnson scooped up a fumble and on the next play from scrimmage Scoby got loose for the 70-yard dash.

***Mayorga was the leading rusher for San Dimas with 86 yards on 10 carries.

***The defensive line played big for Monrovia all night. “Avonte Moore and Alejandro Vega both had good games. It was a total team effort on defense,” said Monrovia HC Ryan Maddox.

***Monrovia botched a snap on an extra point and had another one blocked.

***Potts sat out with a separated shoulder sufferred last week, but he should be ready to go next week against South Hills.

***Monrovia improved to 3-0 on the year while San Dimas fell to 0-4.
