La Salle Puts The Point to The Vikings, 55-0

By Tom Hendrickson

(Pasadena)- The high point of the game for St. Bernard? They received the opening kickoff. Then they punted.

La Salle wasted little time in showing St. Bernard who the dominate power is in the Del Rey League with a 55-0 victory. The win was also the Lancers six consecutive in league play.

Chris Robinson started the scoring for La Salle with a 10-yard run around the left side on a 4th and 1 play. Later, at the 10:17 mark of the second quarter, Milan Acquaah ran 11-yards for the fifth touchdown and the score was 35-0. Mercifully the running clock started for St.Bernard

***St. Bernard is now 2-1, La Salle improves to 2-2

***La Salle’s 6’3″ soph QB, Will Pyburn completed 7 of 12 passes for 112 yards and 1 touchdown while also rushing for 38 yards and 1 touchdown.  He played less than 2 quarters.

***Milan Acquaah led La Salle in rushing with 6 carries for 87 yards and 1 touchdown.

***Acquaah also returned the kickoff to start the second half for a touchdown. He did it the hard way, bouncing off one of his own teammates before eluding the St. Bernard defenders and outracing them to the end zone for a 96-yard return.

***Chris Rabine led La Salle in receiving with 2 catches for 75 yards and 1 touchdown as well as being perfect on extra points.

***Backup QB Aaron McCorkle hit Rabine on a slant and he dashed 64-yards for his touchdown.

***Pyburn perfectly executed the read option for his touchdown and sprinted 38-yards untouched for the score.

***Pyburn hit Jordan Gray on a button hook for 16-yard touchdown. Gray’s fake on St. Bernard’s Brandon Bailey left him glued to the turf as Gray ran into the left corner of the endzone.

***Alec Harrity, La Salle’s 3rd string QB, ran 6 of the 7 plays on La Salle’s last series, accumulated 64 yards and the final score of the game.

***St. Bernard’s futility was born out from the stats. QB Steven Chavez completed 5 of 20 passes for 32 yards and sacked 5 times. They rushed 20 times for 22 yards with 4 1st downs.

***It could have been worse, Emari McClellan caught a pass from McCorkle towards the end of the 1st half, he was tackled at the St. Bernard 10 and fumbled. St. Bernard’s Ty Roller recovered the ball at the 3. La Salle’s only turnover of the game.
