So…you want to play quarterback in the GNAC?

(Glendora) – Central Washington scored the only touchdown of the game with 1:44 left in the first quarter and it stood up in a 7-3 win over Azusa Pacific Saturday night at Citrus College. The Cougars managed just 73 yards on the ground and 176 overall while suffering their second defeat of the season.

Azusa Pacific turned the ball over once on a fumble and converted just one of 13 third downs. The Cougars were 0-3 on fourth downs. APU’s only points came courtesy of a Jaime Cacciatore 32 -yard field goal with 10:56 left in the second quarter.

***Central Washington recovers onside kick to start game.

***Cougars start Justin McPherson at quarterback for second consecutive week but McPherson was replaced by Dasmen Stewart with 44 seconds left in the third quarter.

***With 10:16 to play APU forces fumble…Silas Goma recovers at its own nine-yard line.

***It was the fourth time in two weeks the Cougars have held a team scoreless inside the Red Zone.

***Jordan Todd’s 44-yard run late in the first set up Central Washington at the APU three. Jake Nelson then hit Adam Schechter for a three-yard TD strike for a 7-0 lead and the only touchdown of the contest.

***In the first quarter APU had four possessions that ended in three punts and a fumble.

***Central Washington led APU 7-3 at halftime and both teams went scoreless in the second half.

***The Wildcats snapped the Cougars 6-game GNAC winning streak….It was APU’s homecoming victory over Central Washington in 2012 that began the winning streak.

***The Cougar defense registered 3 sacks. The Wildcats 4.

***APU’s leading rusher, Terrell Watson, was held to 44 yards on 13 carries. His nine game scoring streak was snapped.

***Sean Barber led APU with 15 tackles. Tyler Thornton was in on 12 stops.

***Next week Central Washington (2-1, 2-2 overall) goes to Humboldt State. Azusa Pacific (2-1, 2-2 overall) travels to Western Oregon for 1:P.M. game.
