2. USC Interim Coach Ed Orgeron announces that practices will be reopened to the media with no restrictions on reporting injuries.
3. The Tampa Bay Rays shut out Cleveland 4-0 to advance to the American League Division Series against Boston.
4. With injuries to Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier, Skip Schumacher will start in centerfield for the Dodgers in the division series against Atlanta.
5. Oklahoma City point guard Russell Westbrook will sit out the first four to six seeks of the NBA season with a knee injury he sufferred in the playoffs last year.
6. Pasadena is 1-13 in its last 14 games. The Bulldogs have been outscored 156-33 in four games this year.
7. La Salle has outscored its last two opponents 95-0.

10. On this date in 1951 Bobby Thomson hits the game winning three run home run off the Dodgers Ralph Branca to win the National League pennant for the Giants. The home run became known as the “Shot Heard ‘Round the World” and touched off Giants play-by play announcer Russ Hodges’ famous “Giants win the pennant!” call.
