Pacific League
Crescenta Valley (4-0) at Burroughs (2-2) at Citrus College
Last Year: Burroughs 20-14
Crescenta Valley quarterback Brian Gadsby has been off the charts, throwing for over 1000 yards and 18 touchdowns in the first four games. This isn’t the same tough minded defensive Burroughs teams that we are used to seeing. The Falcons will be eventually tested in league- just not against Burroughs. CV rolls.

Hacienda League
Los Altos (4-0) at Diamond Ranch (4-1)
Last Year: Diamond Ranch 28-21
Everybody in the Mid-Valley offices was bucking for this game. I’m not sure who got it but whoever did is going to see a barn burner. Diamond Ranch’s running game is in high gear with Will Bryan leading the charge. Kammy Delp and the big boys up front are a load as well. The thing is if there is anybody that can match the Panthers physically it’s Los Altos. Plus they have the skill position players in Christian Hacegaba, Estuardo Marcos and Trevor Virnala. This could be for the Hacienda League title. Los Altos emerges from the war.
Los Altos 27 Diamond Ranch 24
West Covina (2-3) at Diamond Bar (4-1)
Last Year: West Covina 35-21
West Covina needs a win more than Diamond Bar and that may be the difference. The Bulldogs were shellacked last week by D Ranch and another loss could ruin their season. They need to make some stops which could be difficult against a D-Bar team featuring the Tylers- Brown and Peterson playing so well. There will be a lot of points put on the board in an old fashioned shootout. Unlike last week, West Covina makes adjustments. Bulldogs are last team standing.

Bonita (3-2) at Rowland (2-3)
Last Year: Bonita 57-16
Bonita is also a Hacienda League team that needs a victory and Rowland might be just what the Bearcats needed. The Raiders are down to their third string running back after the first two went down with injury. Tanner Diebold and Bonita should get well in this one. The question is can they beat a Hacienda contender down the road?

Suburban League
Mayfair (2-3) at Bellflower (2-3)
Last Year: Bellflower 34-27 OT
Battle of the two best teams in the Suburban not named La Mirada and Norwalk. Mayfair is coming off a win over Artesia while Bellflower ran into an angry Matadore team. It’s a game that Bellflower really needs but that Mayfair ultimately gets. The Monsoons and Isaiah Jackson get the W.

Non-League
Arroyo (3-1) at La Canada (2-2)
Last Year: Arroyo 42-7
Arroyo had an easy time with Bye last week and the Knights should have an easy time with LC this week. Arroyo’s offense has been heating up with Nathan Coto tossing the ball around the yard. La Canada has won a couple of games early but Arroyo is a different animal. Knights in a rout.

Temple City (1-3) at Rosemead (3-1)
Last Year: Temple City 20-10
Interesting local matchup. The Panthers have won three straight after an opening night loss while the Rams won once over Alhambra but their defense has had trouble stopping people in their three losses. Rosemead’s offense has some weapons in quarterback Steven Nava and Alec Zavala that TC will have to deal with. The Panthers win their fourth straight .

St. Francis (4-0) at Monrovia (4-0)
Last Year: Monrovia 17-13
According to one local coach, this is the best St. Francis team he has seen in the last 15 to 20 years. And as you know, St. Franks has had some pretty good teams. Of course Monrovia is no slouch either. The undefeated Cats are coming off a big win over South Hills and show no signs of letting up. Yes they have other guys besides Kurt Scoby. This is one game I’d pay to see. Get there early. The house will be packed. St. Francis holds on.
St. Francis 28 Monrovia 27
Whittier (2-2) at Schurr (1-3)
Last Year: Schurr 10-6
Schurr got a big win last week against Cal. It would be a shame to stumble against another Del Rio team like Whittier. Whittier did stay with Whittier Christian and knocked off Azusa. The Cardinals got shelled by Norwalk but who doesn’t? Schurr has had a schedule that would make some SEC teams cringe. The Spartans defense rose to the occasion last week and they will have to make a stand again. Like last year Schurr wins a defensive struggle.
Schurr 17 Whittier 14
El Monte (1-3) at Bell Gardens (3-1)
Last Year: El Monte 46-41
Last year these two teams went up and down the field in an eventual shootout win for El Monte. The problem for the Lions this year is that BG can still score but they have trouble getting into the endzone themselves. The Lancers have scored 124 points in their last three games while El Monte is coming off a loss to Gladstone in which it scored just 14 points. This isn’t the same El Monte team as the 2012 edition. Bell Gardens could be better than last year’s Almont League champions. BG…big.
