Former M-Town OC (and legendary food columnist) Steve Collins is still making bucks in the sports biz as writer for the Daily News

Good Afternoon!

The bitter Dodger fan inside of me requires I make this statement: Remember Angel fans the only World Series you have ever won was won with former Dodger great Mike Scioscia running the show. Lending a hand were former Dodgers Ron Roenicke, Mickey Hatcher, and the leather winged Alfredo Griffin.

(There, now I feel a lot better about things.)

Crescenta Valley was the superior team last night when it faced Muir, but if one or two things shaked out a little different the Mustangs would have won.

…And for the better part of three quarters Muir was dead in the water.

Why after all these years, and much success, is CV still playing its games at Moyse Stadium on the Glendale campus?

Had a blast from the past on the sideline when I ran into former Monrovia OC Steve Collins…Currently teaching by day and hacking away for the Daily News by night.

I meant to ask if he had any eateries to recommend.

Just across the wires the Associated Press is reporting Notre Dame officials have found two unexpired seconds from the third quarter against USC last Saturday. After cutting the grass on Sunday, Fighting Irish coach Charlie Weiss is asking Pete Carroll and the Trojans to return in the a month, after the grass sufficiently grown back, to finish the game.

Is it possible Ohio State’s Terrelle Pryor may be just a tad bit overrated? Mmm?

Please, somebody, at the next level give Muir’s Jarron Williams a look…The kid can ball

On this date in 1970 Los Altos quarterback Jim Strand threw two touchdown passes including the game winner to Randy Carnival for a 14-7 victory over Edgewood in a Sierra League contest.

Edgewood? The last known living alumnus I know from Edgewood is Fred Robledo.

In the rain on this same date in 1987 South Pasadena, under head coach Ron Cuccia, came to North Field and beat Temple City 21-17. Tigers wide receiver Sergio Ristie made a diving catch of quarterback Chip Edwards 17-yard pass to end zone late in the fourth quarter for the winning score.

El Monte snapped a seven game losing streak when defensive lineman Manuel Mata fell on a fumble in the end zone for a 14-7 victory over Duarte. It would EMHS only win in 1987.

In a night of shutouts quarterback Tarrell Amos led Muir to a 34-0 victory over Crescenta Valley, Dave Paladino intercepted three passes to lead La Canada to a 21-0 win over Monrovia, and San Marino beat Blair 21-0 thanks to two Rich Adams touchdown runs and Robbie Santos 81-yard kick-off return for six to open the game.

And a crack writer from the Star News saw St. John Bosco’s Leo Byrne boot a 32-yard field goal with 30-seconds left on the clock to give the Braves a 24-21 victory over St. Francis.

On this date in 1992, on another storm night, Monrovia lost again to La Canada, 30-26, but got on the board first win Wildcat quarterback Earl Davis completed a 98-yard scoring pass to Greg Brinson. The longest in M-Town history.

At Duarte the game and homecoming festivities were held up when a bolt of lightening struck a transformer in the Falcons 33-7 victory over El Monte.

Peter Mora scored a pair of touchdowns as Schurr beat Alhambra 21-2, Akil Harris rushed for 114-yards and Monrovia beat Temple City 18-13, and Steve Stevenson led Charter Oak to a 21-14 win over Wilson with a pair of scores and a complement from Don Lou Farrar: “He’s an excellent athlete, I wish I could clone him.”

Stay thirsty my friends…
