1. Lovie Smith is hired as head coach at Tampa Bay.

2. Connor Cook throws for 332 yards and two touchdowns to lead Michigan State to a 24-20 win over Stanford in the Rose Bowl.

3. South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney and Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater both declare for the NFL draft.

4. Blake Bortles throws for 301 yards and three touchdown passes in Central Florida’s 52-42 win over Baylor in the Fiesta Bowl. The two teams combined for over 1100 yards.

5. The Angels sign pitcher Mark Mulder to a minor league contract. Mulder hasn’t pitched since 2008 due to shoulder issues.

6. Blake Griffin scores 31 points and pulls down 12 rebounds as the Clippers beat the Charlotte Bobcats 112-85. The Clippers are currently the fourth seed in the Western Conference with a 22-12 record.

7. The Boston Celtics are the eighth seed in the East with a record of 13-18.

8. Vin Scully.

9. On this day in 1966 The Green Bay Packers beat the Cleveland Browns 23-12 to win the NFL Championship.
