(La Salle HS) – The Maranatha Minutemen’s offensive cannons cranked out 20 points in each of the first three quarters and 22 in the fourth to knock off La Salle 82-61 Tuesday night at Duffy Lewis Gymnasium.
In a grueling whistle-harangued, foul-riddled game that saw the arch-rivals duke it out and unravel for a whopping 27 fouls and 40 free throw attempts combined in the second half before the Minutemen, led by 24 points (game high) and 10 rebounds from Skye Isles, prevailed.
A total of five Minutemen, including Isles, finished in double-figure points. High flying center Muusa Dama dealt a resounding putback dunk in the second quarter and finished with 14 points, 10 rebounds, and three blocks. Ron Gore had 12 points and nine boards. Nick Springer scored 11, and Tey Williams (three steals, three assists) chipped in with 10.
The Lancers’ deficit against Maranatha ran as high as 27 in the second half before a lengthy run cut it down to the low teens. Isiah Spencer Lopez bucketed just two points, but was outstanding on the boards for La Salle, leading all caromers with 17 rebounds.
Marc Howard added six points, while Zach Smalley (4 assists, 3 steals, 3 rebounds) dropped four and Austin Barbato rounded out the Maranatha points with a free throw.
Johnny Knox led La Salle with three 3-pointers and 21 points. Conor Williams was 12 for 14 from the charity stripe towards 18 points. Justin Jitpatima added nine, and Phoenix O’Shea had three, while Joeal Akobian, Jason Dalcour, Tyler Rix, and Robert McCreary each posted two to bookend the Lancers’ scoring.
