1.) Art Gomez, 6’6″ 285lb offensive lineman from Downey, has committed to Fresno State. Gomez had offers from UTEP, UNLV, IDAHO.

2.) Former New York Giants back up quarterback Jared Lorenzen (The Hefty Lefty), now 32, is still playing football. The University of Kentucky alumnus, and four year NFL vet, is playing for the Northern Kentucky River Monsters of the Continental Indoor Football League. He’s listed at 6’4” 320 pounds.

3.) Former Pasadena quarterback, currently at Utah, Brandon Cox turns 19 today.

5.) Karen Carpenter died on this date 31 years ago of heart failure brought on by her struggle with anorexia.

7.) For Super Bowl Sunday the Seattle Seahawks “Two Deep” depth chart listed 22 players. That’s every defensive position and the back up. Six of the players listed were undrafted and only two were number one draft picks. Only eight of the Seattle defenders  had salaries exceeding one million dollars.

8.) Los Angeles Dodgers and catcher A.J. Ellis avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $3.55 million contract.

9.) Did you know West Covina alum Walter Thurmond III is paid more by the Seattle Seahawks than Richard Sherman?

10.) An AFC team has surrendered a safety in the past 3 straight Super Bowls.
