(Temple City) – Whittier overcame an early deficit and outscored Temple City by 16 over the final three quarters to beat the Rams 62-52 Friday night in the first round of the CIF Division 2A Playoffs.

The Rams made a late run in the fourth quarter to get with four but Whittier scored the last six points of the game to ice it. TC was forced to foul late but Whittier converted six of seven free throws in the final frame.

***Temple City, down 13, went on a 9-0 run in the fourth quarter to slice the Whittier lead to 56-52 before the Cardinals closed it out.

***Goren Lee led the Rams with 17 but was just 3 for 15 from three point land and missed his last six threes of the game.

***Temple City was 7 for 23 overall from behind the arc while Whittier was 2 for 9.

***After an eight point first quarter Whittier scored 18 points in each of the last three quarters.

***Sean Diep hit a pair of threes and finished with 10 for Temple City. Brian Tang had eight.

***Whittier had three players in double digits. Andrew Olivarez and Ryan Espinosa each had 14 and Anthony Rios added 11.

***Espinosa sank four consecutive free throws in the fourth quarter while TC tried to get back in it.

***Whittier outscored the Rams 18-9 in the second quarter to erase a 14-8 deficit and never trailed again.

***Temple City took second in the Rio Hondo with a 7-3 record and went 15-10 overall.

***Whittier (Del Rio at large) improved to 18-9 overall and will face Calabasas in the second round.
