South El Monte pitcher Mariah Quintana fired four shutout innings

[South El Monte]  – Mariah Quintana pitched four shutout innings allowing two hits on 61-pitches in host South El Monte’s 8-0 victory over Edgewood Wednesday afternoon.

The Southmen took the early lead when Gabriel Moran singled in Issac Gutierrez in the first.

In the second inning the Eagles broke it open with five runs, two off a double by Moran. Quintana helped her cause when she got a sacrifice RBI. The Eagles were 6-0 after two innings and then put two more runs on the board in the sixth off an Edgewood throwing error.

Quintana got her first win of the season, freshman Juan Sanchez and senior Eric Bautista finished off the final three innings. Moran finished with three runs batted in.

Southmen improve to 2-0 have outscored their two preseason opponents 23-2. Eagles open up league Friday at El Monte.
