All game times are 7:00 PM unless otherwise indicated

Friday November 6

Rosemead (3-5) at El Monte (0-8)

Last Year: Rosemead 42-7

All-Time: Rosemead 35-12

Rosemead survived a scare last week against South El Monte at the Swamp. But a win is a win and the Panthers need just one more to secure a playoff berth. They should get it here.

The Lions are in a total free fall. Last week they were blitzed by Arroyo 45-0 officially eliminating them from the playoffs. A season that seemed so promising back in August has turned into a nightmare. Rosemead gets the win and gets into post season.

Rosemead 28 El Monte 7

South El Monte (2-6) at Gabrielino (3-5)

Last Year: Gabrielino 24-16

All-Time: Gabrielino 8-3

South El Monte seemed lost during the first five weeks of the season and then league started and we’ve seen a different team. The Eagles got a few players back and picked up a win over Mt. View. Then they beat El Monte and suddenly they are one win away for a playoff berth. They gave Rosemead everything they had last week and came within a minute of getting a W.

Quarterback Anthony Jiminez, Rene Flores, Anthony Molina and Alex Ruiz are all making big plays for South as the season has turned around.

Gabrielino had to rally last week to hold off Mt. View. A win for either side puts them in the playoffs. It’s a fairly even match up but South El Monte is playing better right now.

South El Monte 20 Gabrielino 16

Monrovia (8-0) at La Canada (4-3)

Last Year: Monrovia 10-7

All-Time: Monrovia 15-12

Monrovia continued to roll last week with a big win over South Pas while La Canada was shocking the Rio Hondo by upsetting San Marino. Rocky Moore is playing a solid quarterback for the Spartans and when the Titans couldn’t put them away early it came back to haunt them.

This week LC will run out of miracles. Monrovia’s running game is second to none. The Cats have so many backs that can beat you in so many different ways. De’Shawn Ramirez has emerged as the feature back but Derrick Johnson and Nick Bueno have been running past opponents as well.

If the Spartans do pull the upset they’re in the playoffs. I don’t think they will.

Monrovia 31 La Canada 14

South Pasadena (2-6) at Temple City (4-3-1)

Last Year: Temple City 42-15

All-Time: Temple City 39-15

Temple City had what nearly amounted to a bye last week against Blair and although it won’t be that bad this week the Rams should get it done. South Pas has struggled in recent years and this year has been no exception.

TC has cranked up its passing game lately with Justin Smith, David Spratt and Andrew Torres. It should be firing on all cylinders again. Rams roll.

Temple City 35 South Pasadena 6

Covina (3-5) at Pomona (5-3)

Last Year: Covina 41-34

Both teams need a victory to stay in the playoff picture. Neither one can beat San Dimas or Baldwin Park so they will have to beat each other. Ganesha and Northview are done so the third playoff spot comes down to this game.

Pomona is fast but if Taj Teague and Darrian Lewis are shut down sometimes the Devils don’t have anywhere else to turn. If they can score early they should have an advantage as Covina’s offense has difficulty playing from behind.

It will come down to the wire with Covina’s D making a big stop late.

Covina 21 Pomona 17

Northview (1-7) at San Dimas (7-1)

Last Year: Northview 40-39

2007: San Dimas 35-3

Last year this turned out to be the game of the year. Two Valle Vista heavyweights hammered each other all night until Northview was the last man standing. What a difference a year makes.

While San Dimas continues to excel, Northview has struggled mightily. It’s a classic case of teams going in opposite directions. Two weeks ago the Vikes fell to Ganesha. Last week Baldwin Park knocked them out of the playoffs. The Saints are looking to run the V-Vista table. Saints march on.

San Dimas 38 Northview 6

Bassett (3-5) at Gladstone (6-2) Citrus College

Last Year: Gladstone 29-0

Gladstone has been a nice surprise in the Montview. With a 38-0 rout of Workman last week the Gladiators are in prime position to make the playoffs. Paul Flores is turning into a solid, efficient quarterback.

Bassett won three of its first four and then turned into…well…Bassett. The Olympians have lost all four league games while allowing an average of over 34 points a contest. Happy Rock rolls.

Gladstone 34 Bassett 0

La Puente (6-2) at Sierra Vista (4-4)

Last Year: Sierra Vista 45-12

The Warriors only slipped once in league- a 50-21 loss to Azusa. Okay so they aren’t as good as the Aztecs. But they are better than Sierra Vista and they should take care of the Dons this week.

Sierra Vista allowed 45 points to Workman a couple of weeks ago and also fell to Gladstone and Azusa in the Montview. A loss here would officially eliminate them from post season play. We would like to thank the Dons for participating in the 2009 season.

La Puente 24 Sierra Vista 10
