(Montebello)- The Marcus Hughes era got off to a great start for Diamond Bar with a dominant 48-14 win over Montebello. It was apparent from the first few drives of the game the Bahamas were clearly the more talented team.

The Brahmas scored on their opening drive and lead 14-0 after the first quarter. At the end of the quarter the Oilers Simeon Poggi picked off Tyler Peterson and returned it 32 yards to the Brahmas five. The Oilers capitalized on this to score on a four yard slant from Angel Hernandez to Nathan Reynaga to cut their deficit to 14-7. This is as close as it would get.

The consistent narrative for the Oilers all night was an inability to get any consistent production from their offense to sustain any drive. It was the exact opposite for the Brahmas who had both special teams and defense put points on the board. The Brahmas were able to move with ease, both running the ball and passing with the same efficiency. The score was 41-14 at the half. Diamond Bar scored with 6:47 left in the third to go up 48-14, which would eventually be the final.

  • Diamond Bar’s Quarterback Tyler Peterson finished 11/19 161 yds. 1passing TD, 2Rushing TD’s
  • Diamond Bar’s Antonio “Noodles” Hull had a highlight 75 yard punt return with 2:32 left in the second.
  • Montebello played hard through out but wasn’t able to match Diamond Bar’s talent and speed.
  • Diamond Bar never let up playing with intensity even with a big lead.
  • Credit to Diamond Bar for having a band (not the school band) on the sideline this year playing Instrumental from Rage against the Machine among others songs to get the players and crowd fired up.
  • Diamond Bar hosts Walnut next week.
