The Ten

(“The TEN” is not a top ten but ten items worth being included in The TEN)

1. The Minnesota Twins fire manager Ron Gardenhire after 13 years at the helm.

2. A.J. Hinch is named the new manager of the Houston Astros.

3. Salvador Perez knocked in Christian Colon with a base hit in the 12th inning to give the Kansas City Royals a 9-8 win over the Oakland  A’s in the AL Wild Card game Tuesday night. The Royals erased a 7-3 deficit.

4. Tony Sparano is named the interim head coach of the Oakland Raiders. Sparano is the Raiders’ eighth coach since they traded HC Jon Gruden to Tampa Bay in 2001.

5. An autopsy performed one year after Kansas City Chiefs’ linebacker Jovan Belcher fatally shot his girlfriend and then killed himself revealed signs of chronic traumatic encephalopathy, the degenerative brain disease found in athletes with a history of repetitive brain injuries.

6. Kyle Orton has been named the starting quarterback of the Buffalo Bills, replacing EJ Manuel.

7. Rosemead at Arroyo Friday night 7:00 pm. Last Year: Arroyo 17 Rosemead 13.

8. Lynwood leads the Southeast Division in scoring with 209 points.

9. “Rancho Cucamonga does not look like the great team of years past. Amat is stumbling badly this year but they still rolled RC. There’s no need to question La Serna’s ranking because La Mirada and especially St. Francis would easily defeat the Whittier club.” – MVS commenter Mid Valley Maven.

10. On this date in 1975 Muhammad Ali retains his heavyweight title by outlasting Joe Frazier in the the “Thrilla in Manila.” Frazier’s manager Eddie Futch surrenders from the corner before the start of the 15th round. Frazier was nearly blind at that point.
