(Pasadena) – Crescenta Valley wide receiver Connor Van Ginkel hauled in a 39-yard touchdown pass from Bryan Gadsby to put CV up 24-20 in the third quarter and the Falcons went on to beat Muir 38-26 Friday night on the Mustangs home field.

The catch proved to be a turning point in the contest and came on a fourth down and long. It gave the Falcons their first advantage since it was 6-0 and it was a lead that was never relinquished.

On the Mustangs’ next possession Chase Keough’s pass was batted in the air and intercepted by lineman Davo Hakobyan at the 15 yard line. On the very next play Brian Gadsby hit Boston Lakin on a 15-yard touchdown pass. Just like it was 31-20 Falcons with just over two minutes left in the third.

Muir wasn’t done just yet. James Dunn returned a punt 40 yards for a touchdown early in the fourth to cut the led to 31-26.

But another Muir turnover proved to be deadly. The Mustangs coughed it up at the CV 31 and the Falcons fell on it. They then pieced together a 13-play 69-yard drive that Tyler Hill finished with a seven-yard run. There were only 42 seconds left and the celebration was about to get started.

***Jordan Lobianco (114 yards receiving) picked off Matt Gibson on a trick play in the first quarter and returned it ten yards for the score to put Crescenta Valley up 6-0. He later caught an 82-yard touchdown pass from Gadsby for a 14-12 lead.

***Lobianco was carted off the field in the third quarter with an injury but later returned.

***Taeon Mason caught two touchdown passes for Muir including a great one-handed grab for 24 yards in the second quarter for a 14-6 lead. However Mason had just four catches on the night for 82 yards and the two scores.

***Muir took its last lead of the night at 20-18 on a 10-yard strike from Keough to Cano Chandler.

***There were four lead changes in the contest.

***Kickoff was pushed back to 7:30 as Muir honored its seniors and it didn’t end until 10:45 pm.

***Van Ginkel had five catches for 77 yards and the touchdown.

***Gadsby was 14-30 for 234 yards and three touchdowns and a touchdown rushing.

***Keough also threw three TD passes for Muir and threw an interception at the end of the first half.

***Jonathan Stephens had 25 carries for 89 yards for Muir.

***With the win Crescenta Valley improves to 8-0 and although it isn’t official yet, has captured its first Pacific League title since 2001.

***Muir falls to 4-1 in league and 4-4 overall.
