(La Canada) – South Pasadena beat La Canada 21-3 on the field Friday night to take third place in the Rio Hondo Division and earn a spot in the CIF Central Division Playoffs. Or did they? Off the field they have apparently lost.
The Tigers played the game without head coach Martin Konrad due to an unspecified administrative issue. Then after the game La Canada HC Ramsey Lambert told his team that because of unspecified CIF issues, the league had voted to ban South Pasadena from the post season, which meant that despite the loss it will be La Canada advancing to the playoffs instead of South Pas. The Tigers haven’t made the post season since 2003.
The unspecified reasons are reportedly the illegal videoing of La Canada practices during the week by Conrad’s brother. La Canada was playing the game under protest. The Spartans coaches and administration knew even before the game that they would be going to post season due to South Pasadena’s violations sources say.
More details will be released over the next couple of weeks according to unnamed sources. South Pasadena finished at 7-3, 3-2 in league while the Spartans ended up 6-4, 2-3.
