(Hacienda Heights) – Tyler Nevins ran for 290 yards and five touchdowns to lead Los Altos to a 45-35 win over Monrovia Friday night to advance to the Semi-Finals in the Central Division.

Los Altos jumped out to a 21-7 lead in the first quarter and increased it to 31-14 at the half. The Conquerors were in control the rest of the way, leading 45-21 in the fourth quarter before the Wildcats scored twice late.

Monrovia couldn’t match Los Altos’ strength up front as the Conquerors dominated the line of scrimmage all night and eventually wore the Wildcats down.

Asaph Zamora hit on a couple of big plays for Monrovia hitting Octavius Spencer on a 63-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter to cut the Los Altos lead to 21-14. But the Conqs scored the next 17 points to go up 38-21 before the Cats scored again.

***Tevita Sina scored the other touchdown for Los Altos on a 43-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.

***Monrovia scored first on the opening possession when Jordan Nathan scored on a 65-yard run. Nathan had three touchdowns, two receiving, on the night and 165 total yards.

***Zamora threw three touchdown passes for Monrovia overall but it wasn’t enough.

***Nevens’ 29-yard scamper in the fourth with just over nine minutes left in the contest gave Los Altos’ a 45-21 lead and for intents and purposes, iced it.

***Monrovia beat Los Altos 27-25 on September 26 at Monrovia.

***Monrovia finished 10-2 overall. It’s only other loss was at St. Francis 35-13 on September 19.

***Los Altos improved to 7-5 and has won five of its last six games.

***After the Wildcats cut the lead to 21-14, Nevens scored on a 44-yard run and Hunter Smith booted a 22-yard field goal as the clock ran out in the first half to make it 31-14.

***Los Altos will face Bonita, who beat West Covina, next week in the Semi-Finals.

***Nevens can do more than just play football. He’s a 4.0 in the classroom.
