The Red Devils Advance to Semifinals

(San Dimas)- The Pomona Red Devils scored 27 unanswered points in the first half and kept a sizeable lead for the rest of the game as they continued their streak of dominance on Friday night with a 41-14 win over the San Dimas Saints in the second round of the CIF Playoffs.

Junior QB Darreon Lockett threw four touchdown passes in the game, including two to senior WR Shawn Wilson. His other two touchdown passes were to senior WR Desmond Bobo and senior WR Kheenyon Woods, respectively.

Lockett received a lot of help from his defense, which held San Dimas to a touchdown each half for a total of 14 points and forcing two turnovers, which both led to touchdown drives for the Red Devils. San Dimas’ 14 points is tied with their loss against Bonita for the lowest amount of points it has scored in a game all season.

Pomona will advance to the semifinals of the CIF Playoffs next week to face Sierra Canyon.

*** Pomona’s 41 points is the lowest amount of points it has scored in a win this season.

*** Lockett completed 11-of-21 passes for 211 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran the ball 10 times for 48 yards.

*** San Dimas ended the second half with a seven-play, 71-yard drive capped off with a 27-yard touchdown run from senior RB Nazario Ruiz.

*** Pomona’s senior receiving duo of Bobo and Wilson combined for 30 receiving touchdowns heading into Friday night. Bobo finished with three catches for 21 yards and a touchdown and Wilson finished with four catches for 95 yards and two touchdowns.

*** San Dimas senior captain RB Bobby Rios did not play last week in the first round of the CIF Playoffs against Baldwin Park, but played on Friday night and finished with six carries for 24 yards. Rios led the Saints in touchdowns during the regular season.

*** Pomona’s defense held San Dimas’ three senior running backs to 113 yards and one touchdown combined. Saints senior RB Nazario Ruiz led the trio with 16 carries for 67 yards and a touchdown. Senior RB Manny Elizalde finished with 14 carries for 22 yards.

*** Pomona interim head coach Keith Richardson on the Red Devils offense: “We’ve got a lot of athletes and we wanted to just start running the ball. We knew at this point of the season, we wanted to run the ball … so now we’re executing our run game to go along with the pass game.”

*** San Dimas senior QB Andrew Avila completed 4-of-8 passes for 99 yards, a touchdown and an interception.

*** The Red Devils had two rushing touchdowns on Friday night from two different running backs. Junior RB Brian Lamb scored the first touchdown and senior RB Andre Walker scored the second touchdown. Walker finished with 11 carries for 113 yards and a touchdown.

*** Coach Richardson on Pomona’s overall performance: “Our guys showed a lot of character. With all the things they’ve been through, they showed a lot of character, we preached that to them all year long and they’ve accepted that.”

*** San Dimas’ starting offensive line: junior LT Yousef Hanna, junior LG Charles Santisteban, senior C Nick Castaneda, junior RG Nathan Reep and senior RT Jonathan Aleriano.

*** Pomona’s starting offensive line: senior LT Alex Arroyas, junior LG Christopher Mendez, senior C Nicholas Meza, sophomore RG Oliver Deerr and senior RT Keevan Watley.
