Pomona (9-4, Miramonte #1) at Paraclete (10-3, Gold Coast #1) At Antelope Valley College

Despite the early adversities and losing their head coach late in the season, the Pomona Red Devils have done nothing but win in the post season. As Sierra Canyon found out last week, this Pomona team has talent galore and can beat you in a number of ways. On the other side, Paraclete is loaded with talent as well and has shown they can be as physical as any team they face. Just ask Northview.

Paraclete is home in the confines of Antelope Valley College and the weather seems to be turning a bit brisker to their advantage. Melquise Stovall has played in big games before and has shined but he’ll need more touches than he had last week for the Spirits to get the gold. Paraclete’s defense has been stellar in the post season giving up a total of 12 points in three games and that play will need to continue if the Spirits are to win.

How does the Paraclete defense stop Darreon Lockett? Keep him in the pocket and make him throw? 2,500+ yards and 40 touchdowns will make you think twice. Take away the pass and make the Red Devils run? Lockett and Andre Walker have combined for 1,000+ yards and 11 scores. Shawn Wilson and Desmond Bobo have combined to add more than 2,500 all-purpose yards and have seen the endzone 38 times. Pomona has given up 34 points in their last two games to quality teams so if there is a weakness, it may be in the defense.

In the end Pomona’s team speed and talented playmakers will guide them to their first CIF Championship since 1951.
