(Glendora) –  Bruce English scored 17 points off the bench in 20 minutes to spark Azusa Pacific to an 88-74 win over BYU -Hawaii Thursday night at Felix Event Center.

English was red hot from the perimeter burying 5 of 7 shots from three point land and hitting 6 of 9 from the floor overall. English gave the Cougars a shot in the arm in the first half after they fell down early to BYU-Hawaii. APU caught the Seasiders late in the first half, took a ten point lead at the break and never looked back.

BYU-Hawaii got off to a 5-0 start and still led 13 minutes into the contest. The Cougars tied it at 30 and then eventually took control. After leading 50-40 at the break, APU scored the first seven points of the second half to open a 17 point bulge. The Cougs built a 20 point margin at 65-45 before BYU-Hawaii slightly rallied.

Troy Leaf, as he as done all year, led Azusa Pacific with 25 points. Leaf was 9 of 16 from the floor and 5 of 7 from the line while playing 35 minutes. Robert Sandoval with 12, and Kevin Stafford with 10 were also in double figures.

After trailing 30-28 in the first half, APU used a 22-10 run to close out the half and the 7-0 run to open the second half put BYU -Hawaii in a hole from which it could never recover.

The Cougars were 10-24 from three point land and shot 49 percent from the field for the game.

Scott Friel led BYU-Hawaii in scoring with 18 points and Pablo Coro had 11. The Seasiders did outrebound the Cougars 36-33.

The win was a nice bounce back win for APU after falling to Cal Baptist last Saturday night. The Cougars improved to 13-3 in the PacWest and 20-4 overall. BYU-Hawaii is now 12-3, 18-3.
