(…Because it is never too early.)
Graduation has hit this division hard, but the number one quarterback does return and has now added “champion” to his growing resume. Some new names on this list to keep an eye on that could develop into something special in 2015.
1.) Pomona, Darreon Lockett (SR): The dude is positively bionic.
2.) Sierra Canyon, Niko Harris: An injury robbed the back half of 2014. Dude can play.
3.) El Monte, Edward Dominguez (SR): Lion QBs produce numbers, but things “could” be in place for a visit to the third round.
4.) Rosemead, Steven Nava (SR): An uneventful summer should lead to an even better senior season.
5.) Viewpoint, Zach Chulak (SR): Plays in a running offense, but we’ve liked him since his freshman year. Averaging only 16 attempts per game, needs more.
6.) Northview, Steven Comstock (SO): Great rookie year, get ready to see him do it with his arm.
7.) Azusa, Joe Ramirez (SR): Nobody gives Joe Scherf a QB, he creates them.
8.) South El Monte, Jaime Michel (SR): The drama down at The Swamp is a distraction from a guy who has shown ability.
9.) Bassett, Marcus Ruiz (JR): Maybe, possibly, it could, they might…The Olympians are hoping Ruiz is the guy.
10.) Paraclete, David Schmucker (SR): The fact that Melquise Stovall is back already makes things better. So does a year of experience. Note to Clete: Let him throw.
***Former Schurr quarterback Adam Polanco was on this list before transferring to Garfield.
Keep an eye on La Puente’s Rafael Ayala and Sierra Canyon’s Kohl Hollinquest
