Tre Magnifique! CIF Champion Tre Evans tells us where San Dimas has finished in 2009

“You got me going

I need you baby

I can’t let go

And I want you baby

I gotta have all your love

I can’t let go.”

— Linda Ronstadt

Good Morning!

PERSPECTIVE, Perspective, perspective…

There is a tragic sort of poetry to Monrovia’s loss Saturday night against San Dimas. Another great edition of a storied program, full of undefeated seasons (through 13 weeks), sensational finishes, professional football and major college alums…yet no championships…

They get to the finals for the first time in 10 years and they play it in a hurricane. Other title losses have come against “locals” Santa Barbara and San Diego…They’ve taken trips to to places like Paso Robles and suffered defeat.

And the next time someone comes up with the bright idea of playing at Citrus College, give us a call and we’ll remind you of Wildcat defeats in 2009 (San Dimas 12-7), 1999 (Paso Robles 24-10), 1982 (Verbum Dei 7-0), and 1973 (Crescenta Valley 14-7)…

You’d think at some point the right pick, the right fumble, or the wheel of fate would click and tumble at the precise moment and Monrovia would have a title…but no.

Last Add M-Town: Do you know what 1951, 1959, 1973, 1982, 1997, 1998, & 2009 all have in common? Monrovia was undefeated entering the finals in all of those seasons…

I have to say, Saturday night was the first time my heart was torn in a championship game…I do have a tendency to lean towards Cinderella…

Apologies to Steve Bogan and the South Hills faithful, but I was rooting for San Gabriel in 2003…I was rooting for Schurr in 2006… and though they were hardly Cinderella, I was rooting for Rosemead in 2008…

Saturday night Monrovia was going to be a great story…San Dimas was going to be a great story…and it’s all a great story even though I was happy and kind of sad.

Moments: Seeing M-Town linebacker Josh Lowden run from sideline to sideline, and shooting the gap on fourth down at the goal line to stop Tre Evans.

The 36-yard punt, yeah a punt, by Dillon Corona that literally dropped dead at the Monrovia four with 1:17 to play.

The Saints Jordan Taylor being overcome by emotion when it was over…Winrow, Kohler, Theo Darlington!

…And seeing the orange “40” marker get caught in a current behind the Monrovia bench and swept down the track.

I also sensed something in the Mid-Valley final I didn’t in the Southeast. Passion.

Even in the midst of the typhoon, it was never lost on me it was a title game Saturday night… At Ayala (gorgeous facility) Diamond Ranch and Charter Oak went at it, but from the booth part of me felt like I was watching another league game. Things didn’t ever ratchet up…

Not to say the Chargers weren’t thrilled with the victory…Curtis Ortega literally cartwheeling after the victory was proof enough.

Yes its True: Dillon Corona (#5), Tre Evans (#3), & Ryan Kohler (#33) confirm to Theo Darlington (#6) that San Dimas is number one in 2009.

Totally understand D-Ranch HC Roddy Layton’s point about the Charter Oak monkey being on their back until they finally beat them.

There are lot of great coaching staff’s out there, and I say this not to imply anything about any other coaching staff, but the San Dimas football staff has got it going on.

When Bill Zernickow told me in May his team was going to be okay, I totally bought in. I was thinking yeah, a second place finish, get some experience for his players, and he’d be back in contention by 2010… A good chunk of his roster was still playing baseball when we connected…

Wish I could play Nostradamus, but I can’t…I did not see this coming…Then again isn’t Nostradamus famous for figuring things out after they’ve happened?

I mean to ask Zernickow, when it occurred to him this team could go the distance? Although I do remember him smiling after the Los Altos game when he informed me his offensive line was constructed of all underclassmen.

JoeStaDamus Prediction: Monrovia and San Dimas meet again in the finals next year.

Can I start the countdown clock till the Mid Valley Classic?

Note to Jim Singiser and Anthony White: There will be a Mid Valley Classic next September…right?

Is it really Paraclete out, Maranatha in…in regards to the Olympic League? If so give us La Salle in the Olympic and take L.A. Baptist somewhere else…

We’ve been clear for over a year about how we feel in regards to A.J. Powell and Adam Muema… But Brandon Golden… Brandon Golden with your performance Friday night, you are my ambassador of Quan!

Stay thirsty my friends…
