Lancers Run Wild Over Lady Condors

(El Monte, Ca) – Bishop Amat cruised into the second round of the Arroyo Lady Knights Tournament with a 66-17 win over California.

“We had an opportunity to play against one of the best teams in the area,” said Lady Condor head coach Leonard Espinosa.  “All the things we had been able to get away with in our previous games we weren’t able to do. We were definitely rattled in the first half.”

The Lancers used two 21-0 runs during the first half to explode out to a 52-6 lead by halftime.

A combination of heavy man-to-man press defense and timely shooting in the first half was all Bishop Amat needed.

Leticia Galarza led the Lancers with 13 points, all coming in the first half. Gina Henderson came off the bench to score 11 points in the victory.

The Lady Condors didn’t help themselves during the game as they turned the ball over 26 times.

California was held scoreless until eleven seconds were left in the first quarter when Megan Palma found the bottom of the net for a three pointer.

Bishop Amat slowed the game down considerably after the first half and only managed 14 second half points.

The Lancers will now play Sierra Vista in the second round on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
