Kick it!

Right off the Top: Are any Dodger fans concerned about Joc Pederson’s batting average? About 30 years ago I remember asking the same question of the Chicago White Sox slugger Ron Kittle…And I agree, in the few times I’ve seen him, Pederson is not exactly Ron Kittle.

Four-Way throw today at San Dimas will include Chino, South Hills, and Montclair.

If everything on the boards is true and all things being equal…Then and after seeing how talent has been lifted from Arcadia in recent years I can understand why the Apaches decided procure some talent for themselves. Or, more simply put: They’ve decided to do unto others before it can be done to them.

With HC Derek Brown’s resignation coming in mid-July…it is safe to say the outlook at Bellflower is none too good at this point.

Just in case anyone is complaining…and I say this as a Rams fan…Dez Bryant is worth all the dough the Cowboys gave him. Truth is they let DeMarco Murray go because he was a running back with mileage (smart move) but part of that decision was based on the concept of Bryant being more valuable.

Really missing baseball today. Go Mets!

Have you given any thought to where you were, what you were thinking, and what you were doing ten years ago? At least in regards to football?

South Hills was the Div-7 champion and Marquies Winbush rushed for 1,892 yards and 36 touchdowns. Winbush also caught two touchdown passes from Kevin Mort (who threw 19 on the season) to bring his total to 38. Steve Bogan was the HC and Huskie football was at its zenith.

Dominguez was the Div-3 champion. The Dons went 13-1 under HC Willie Donerson. Running back Marvin Johnson rushed for 1,016 yards and 18 touchdowns, but he was outdone by teammate Brandon Johnson with 1,490 yards and 22 touchdowns.

What else was going on in 2005? Dominic Salmon was still throwing passes for Arroyo to Sergio Leon. Lee Aguirre and his “Don’t Doubt The South” mantra helped get South El Monte all the way to the semifinals. Matt Koffler was still the Rosemead HC, Mike Mooney was at Temple City, Daryl Thomas was at Covina, and John Dimalante was at Arcadia.

That’s the fast of it…But where were the teams that are competing now in 2005? We weren’t covering Downey in 2005, but I’d love to see are analytics if the Vikings went 5-6 this season as they did ten years ago.

Crescenta Valley went 3-8 a decade ago. It made the playoffs with three Pacific League victories over Hoover (38-12), Glendale (44-35), and Pasadena (8-7). The Falcons lost their last three games of the season: Muir (0-43), Arcadia (7-42), and Dominguez (0-54)…No one within shouting distance between the 2, the 210, and the 134 would ever have believed last season’s 14-0 record and title were in the future.

Buena Park, not in our coverage zone but always good for a reaction, was 4-6 in 2005. Over the next four years they went 4-35 overall. Things changed when they made the playoffs in 2010…and guess who got there in 2010? That’s right, Anthony White.

El Monte was 3-7 and still searching for an identity. Norwalk was a 3-7 team. Artesia was 8-3. Monrovia was still middle of the road. Keppel and Mt. View were still Keppel and Mt. View.

Rio Hondo Prep won a championship with 10-7 victory over Campbell Hall in the Div-13 finals. Now it’s a miracle if Campbell Hall can finish a season.

Montebello was 4-6 a decade ago and seemingly lost.

There’s so much more but ten years seems to have passed with the snap of a finger…and its curious how in some cases fortunes can change while others stay the same.

In regards to Colin Kaepernick: I dreamed last night the 49ers went into Pittsburgh and beat the Steelers. Kaepernick threw for 298 yards said after the game that it was time to step up and shut down his critics…This didn’t happen did it?

In regards to Denver Nuggets point guard Ty Lawson, who was picked up again on a DUI: “When you have agents, fans, friends, family pushing basketball and all the other stuff gets kind of pushed under the rug when the signs are there that there is an issue. You got to make life the priority before someone else makes it a priority. When someone else makes it a priority, the disciplines, fines, whatever, at the end of the day it means your life isn’t the priority. It means that contract may be of importance.”—Former NBA All-Star Vin Baker

In regards to MLB expansion: Commissioner Rob Manfred said expansion to 32 teams is a possibility…Would that be good thing for baseball or is it the best way to jack up home run totals without juice?

In regards to Colin Cowherd: He’s leaving ESPN.

In regards to Blair: Is there room in the Rio Hondo League for Blair and HC Ricky Pickens to contend for the third spot? Is the Vikings house in enough order, after going 3-7 in 2014 and a slightly improved schedule this year, to make it happen?

The Dude abides…
