Burke is too Much for La Canada to Handle

(El Monte, Ca) – La Canada was unable to contain Kody Burke in the paint and dropped the Lady Knights Tournament third- place game 48-38 to Notre Dame Sherman Oaks.

The North Carolina State bound Burke was virtually unstoppable as she poured in a game high 30 points and had seven block shots in the win.

The Lady Spartans were unable to get on track in the first half as they shot four for 25 as a team and were unable to establish any inside presence with Burke defending.

“We just couldn’t get shots to fall in the first half,” said La Canada head coach Tamar Hill.  “It also didn’t help that we didn’t execute during the game.”

The Knights were able to blow the game open in the second quarter as they went on a 10-0 run that saw contributions from Sydney Hubbard and Katherine Ortiz.

La Canada would close out the half to get within 19 points when Grace O’Hara made the first field goal of the second quarter and Shannon Denney made a five-foot jumper.

The Lady Spartans were finally able to make a game of it in the fourth quarter as they held Notre Dame without a field goal for 6:30.

With less than 55 seconds, La Canada’s Courtney McCutchan made a three-pointer to cut the Knights lead to eight.  It was McCutchan’s only field goal of the evening.

It would be the closest the Lady Spartans would get as Burke closed the victory out with two free throws.

Tia Chen was the leading scorer for La Canada with 17 points.
