Game Night Southeast Division: Week One

All Games are 7:00 p.m. Unless otherwise indicated

Thursday September 3

Crescenta Valley (0-0) at Verdugo Hills (0-0)

Openers for both teams. Not that it means anything but the Crescenta Valley offense looked explosive in the summer. Why does it seem like even after winning a CIF title the Falcons still have something to prove. CV gets off and running.

Friday September 4

Muir (0-1) at Cathedral (1-0)

This doesn’t look like your typical Muir team while Cathedral is eyeing a lengthy post season run with loads of talent in the fold. This may sound funny to the long time Muir faithful but the Mustangs will have trouble keeping up.

Cathedral 35 Muir 13

West Covina (0-1) at St. Francis (0-0)

The Golden Knights season gets underway while the Bulldogs try to rebound from a tough opening night loss to Colony. First two games look like a death march for West Covina. Mike Maggiore isn’t ducking anybody. St. Franks gets the nod.

California (1-0) at Bell Gardens (1-0)

Both teams came up with impressive opening night wins. Cal rolled Gahr late while BG was outscoring the Apaches of Arcadia. Bell Gardens is a little different than Gahr. The Condors D was good last Saturday night. It will have to be great Friday. Lancers outscore the Condors.

Bell Gardens 24 California 21

Ayala (0-0) at Burbank (1-0) (Burroughs)

Burbank has everybody’s attention now. A win over Monrovia on the road will tend to do that. Ayala is always a tough out- especially on opening night when the players are chomping at the bit. Should be a real test for the Bank. The first instinct was Ayala but everybody’s first instinct last week was Monrovia. Burbank goes to 2-0.

Burbank 31 Ayala 24

Downey (1-0) at Hart (0-0) (College of the Canyons)

If San Pedro was Alabama, Hart is the Green Bay Packers. This one might not be much fun for the Vikings. Hart can make the proudest men humble and the boldest men tremble. Downey’s defense stepped up last week but this is a tall mountain to climb. Just call it Everest. Hart wins going away.

Hart 35 Downey 13

Dominguez (0-1) at Jordan (0-1)

The Dons gave Orange Lutheran all it could handle while Jordan was getting beat up by Capistrano Valley. Dominguez loves to run the ball and should be able to do that here. The Dons should be fine.

Dominguez 24 Jordan 10

La Mirada (0-1) at Charter Oak (0-0)

The Matadores are still trying to recover from that truck that ran over them. The Chargers trying to get off on the right track. This could turn out to be a really good game – as long as one of the teams isn’t named St. John Bosco. Charter Oak has just enough.

Charter Oak 28 La Mirada 24
